PONTIKIS GEORGE

Giorgos Pontikis

He was born in Athens in 1976. From a young age he came in contact with clay working in the family traditional pottery workshop. He studied Graphic Arts, but his passion for clay led him to devote himself to ceramics. Later he attended classes in Sculpture Ceramics and Materials Technology, with teachers Menandros Papadopoulos and Costas Tarkasis. He has also attended Raku, reduction and alternative baking seminars, which stimulated him to experiment and engage with such techniques in his workshop.

He creates unique sculptural forms with the Raku technique in an open fire furnace. He combines metal surfaces, terra sigillata and colored glazing.
