10 Loss
Loss: according to the dictionary, from the ancient verb apollymi or apollyo. Destruction, loss, waste, desolation.
The word loss “resonates” with its corresponding emotional weight in all languages. Loss-Perte-Perdita…
But why, this year especially, the loss, a topic diametrically opposed to the carefreeness we so need?
At the end of February, the terrible event of Tempe froze an entire society. A society that cried, raged. However, soon, new losses would reach our ears and eyes which, too, would pass from the “first” to the “second” shot.
Pylos, increasing femicides, Antonis in Piraeus, Dadia, Thessaly…
Nowadays, it seems like we are going through losses. Losses that we pass over unhappily and untimely as soon, almost fatally, we will be called to bend over a new one, more or equally tragic.
At ATTILIO, after the great void that Tempi left in us, we began to feel the loss.
” Losses are the shadow of all our possessions – material and immaterial “,
according to psychiatrist and psychotherapist Carlos Sluzki
The death of a loved one can be emotionally devastating and one of the most stressful life events. But loss is not just death.
From the moment of birth, we separate from our mother’s body in order to survive.
From the moment of birth, we separate from our mother’s body in order to survive.
Every change is a loss and every loss a change.
War, refugees, migration mean loss of birthplace, identity, sometimes dignity.
Old age, illness, the defeats we will experience, correspond to losses.
The destruction of our natural environment is the loss of a landscape and a reality as we have known it until now.
But really, where do the losses go that do not take the time, depth and extent they claim?
How is every small or big loss registered and imprinted on our mind, body and soul?
And art, bearer of this almost magical, redemptive quality of giving form to what can hardly be said, how does it work within us when faced with loss?
The works that will accompany our days this autumn trace the loss by approaching it in a completely personal, deep and special way.
At the same time, an imaginary, common thread weaves between them, dialectical relations, ways of meeting, relations of kinship.
The “Loss” event will take place from 23/10/2023 to 26/11/2023 at the ATTILIO store in the center of Ilioupoli.
